I have some gold curtains that are dryclean only and I would like to dye then another color. How do I do this?
What are they made of?
They may not dye because they’re synthetic (polyester) or because they have a surface treatment to keep them clean or make them block out light
Without looking at them it’s very hard to say. If they’re a natural fibre, you may be able to dye them but they could shrink quite a lot or their texture could get ruined by wetting them or wringing them.
You’d also need a container large enough for the curtains to move freely when you’re dying …you’d have to dye all the curtains at once to get a reliably even colour which would mean a HUGE tub of some sort unless the fabric is very light weight
Some dry cleaning services offer clothes dying …it might be worth asking if that sort of fabric can be dyed
I have a bit of a Darwinian policy towards dry-clean-only
