Fished jumped out of bowl because of new filter?
Hi,
I have a shubunkin fish (silver with black and orange spots) and just got a filter for his bowl. He was doing fine before this, I changed the water weekly, etc. Except since I’ve put the filter in the bowl about a week and a half ago, he’s jumped out twice. Any ideas why? Is the filter stressing him out?
I really don’t want to hear about how bowls are deathtraps, etc. I don’t have the room or money to buy a larger tank, and am trying my best to keep him happy as he is in the bowl.
I’d appreciate any suggestions for keeping him happy IN THE BOWL. I have moved things in it to try and block the current somewhat in an attempt to lessen it, however, if you think he could be jumping for any other reason, please tell me.
Fish should never be kept in bowl but that is probably the pet shops fault if they can sell bowls they will

whilst in a bowl ammonia and nitrite build up to deadly levels and then you start getting problems ammonia burns then possibly death
Your fish would love you to buy him a 20 gallon tank as a starting point and add a good filter and cycle the tank if you cant do any of this then in the long term re homing the fish would be the right thing to do

Different Types of Home Water Filters
Carbon filters – carbon filters are the most common type of home water filter. These filters use activated carbon, either in block form or granulated. They don’t simply filter out contaminants from your water supply; they also adjust your water’s pH and make it slightly alkaline to provide added health benefits to the user.
